Who They Are
Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization dedicated to repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. Their mission centers on making essential zero-cost repairs to help their neighbors remain in their homes, ensuring safety and well-being.
Rebuilding Together began in 1973 when a group of individuals in Midland, Texas, volunteered their skills to rehabilitate their neighbors' homes, leading to the formation of Christmas in April. The organization's growth and national recognition eventually led to the establishment of the national office in 1988, and it officially became Rebuilding Together. Today, Rebuilding Together is a leading national nonprofit, repairing the homes of people in need and revitalizing communities across the country.
Beyond individual homes, Rebuilding Together works closely with local affiliates, community residents, and leaders to create and execute plans that address specific community needs. Their strategic framework prioritizes safe and healthy housing by targeting safety and health hazards in homes while also fostering community revitalization partnerships to align with the aspirations of residents and stakeholders. Inclusivity is a core value, and they are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work.
What They Do
Rebuilding Together's core values drive their work. They emphasize community involvement, teamwork, diversity, innovation, and unwavering commitment to their mission. Their work involves making critical repairs at zero cost to assist veterans and people with disabilities, aiding communities in recovering and rebuilding after natural disasters, helping older adults age safely in place, and preventing homelessness. Their impact over the past 30 years has reached over 200,000 neighbors, impacting 6 million people with the support of 4 million volunteers.
Rebuilding Together is dedicated to creating meaningful change, preserving the dignity and health of vulnerable neighbors, supporting overwhelmed social services, and safeguarding intergenerational wealth. They prioritize measurable impact and collaborate with an independent research firm for a multiyear, multiphase evaluation to track the effectiveness of their programs in terms of health, safety, and long-term financial well-being for the people they serve. Through their dedication and commitment, Rebuilding Together strives to create safe homes and communities for everyone.
