Who They Are
One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation efforts. Their vision is to make it simple for anyone to contribute to the environment by planting trees, with the goal of restoring forests, creating habitats for biodiversity, and making a positive social impact worldwide. Since its establishment in 2014, One Tree Planted has been committed to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity, and support reforestation efforts.
One Tree Planted has achieved significant milestones since its inception. They have planted over 135.5 million trees with 378 partners across 82 countries in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific. In 2022 alone, they more than doubled their impact from the previous year, planting an impressive 52.7 million trees. With the support of its donors, One Tree Planted aids in environmental conservation and restoration efforts on a global scale.
What They Do
One Tree Planted supports a variety of reforestation projects by working with local planting partners in more than seventy countries, across diverse ecosystems, to fund large-scale, high-impact initiatives. These projects focus on forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, and agroforestry. Additionally, the projects provide community benefits such as improving local health, supporting indigenous project ownership, and encouraging sustainable income generation. One Tree Planted also supports urban forestry through its Urban Forestry Action Fund, an international portfolio of high-impact projects that address environmental justice issues and help communities achieve tree equity.
The organization believes in complete transparency regarding how donation dollars are utilized. They work closely with their partners to determine how best to support them within their reforestation model, with each project having a budget that covers specific primary costs such as land preparation, weeding, sapling nurturing, tree planting, monitoring, impact reporting, and operations. One Tree Planted projects go through rigorous vetting and approval processes to ensure that every funded initiative holds significant value and potential for positive change. Once a project is fully funded and planting is completed, their MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) team works with the reforestation partners to map and record the growing trees, analyzing the impact the trees will have on overall forest health, biodiversity, and surrounding communities.
