The Hendrick Scholarship Foundation (HSF) is an organization that addresses the unmet need for economically disadvantaged students in accessing post-secondary education. In the State of Texas, the statistics for students attaining some form of post-secondary credential are alarmingly low, with only 25% of all students achieving it within six years of graduating high school. The percentage is even lower for at-risk students, standing at just 12%. However, HSF has made a significant impact, as 60% of its students have been successful in obtaining post-secondary credentials.
The foundation primarily focuses on recent graduates from Plano Independent School District (ISD) in Texas who have faced significant adversity and demonstrated resilience. By providing these students with financial aid and a strong support system, HSF aims to promote success in life through education.
The legacy of Dr. H. Wayne Hendrick, the former Superintendent of Plano ISD, greatly influences the foundation's work. Dr. Hendrick had a humble background but managed to earn a college degree, and he was dedicated to ensuring that all students had access to education. Even after retiring, he remained actively involved in education and played a crucial role in selecting and mentoring scholarship recipients. His passion for helping students and belief in the power of education continues to shape the foundation's values and mission.
What sets the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation apart is its comprehensive approach to supporting students. They not only provide financial assistance through multi-year college scholarships totaling up to $17,000, renewable until a student completes their Bachelor's degree, but they also offer various support services. These services include one-to-one coaching, mentoring, academic planning, career guidance, life skills workshops, and resources to assist with basic living needs.
HSF believes that one-to-one coaching is a crucial factor in a student's academic success, so each of their 81 students is assigned a dedicated success coach to guide them throughout their academic journey.
Overall, HSF plays a vital role in providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged students to pursue higher education and build a brighter future. Through their financial support and comprehensive assistance, they are making a positive impact on the lives of these students and contributing to the growth and success of the community.
Our $1,000 donation will help the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation fund scholarships, as well as provide coaching, tutoring, career counseling, and life skills workshops to students.
