Who They Are
Fisher House Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military and veteran families during medical crises. Founded with the mission of keeping families together during challenging times, they've become a cornerstone of military family support.
The Foundation has demonstrated remarkable growth and impact, currently maintaining facilities across military and VA medical centers worldwide. Their network of comfort homes has served over 500,000 families since its establishment, providing not just accommodation but genuine community support during difficult periods.
The Foundation maintains a daily capacity to house 1,300 families, having provided over 12 million days of lodging to date. This extensive reach has resulted in estimated savings of $610 million for military and veterans' families who would otherwise face substantial out-of-pocket expenses for lodging and transportation.
What They Do
The Foundation's primary initiative is building and operating Fisher Houses — comfort homes featuring up to 21 suites with private bedrooms and bathrooms. These facilities include shared spaces like kitchens, laundry rooms, and living areas, fostering a supportive community environment.
Beyond housing, the Foundation operates several crucial support programs. The Hero Miles program has provided over 70,000 airline tickets worth nearly $105 million, using donated frequent flyer miles to transport families to their injured loved ones.
Their Hotels for Heroes program leverages donated hotel points to offer free accommodation near medical centers. The Foundation also maintains a robust scholarship program, having awarded $27 million to 15,000 students, benefiting military children, spouses, and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
Additionally, they manage a grant program supporting other military-focused charities, creating a comprehensive support network for service members and their families.
